State Reserve BrigadesEdit

Each of the states, and in addition the North Queensland region, maintains a Brigade Combat Team. These brigades, as well as being part of the wider Australian Army Force Generation Cycle, act as a HQ unit to support their parent state. The heritage of these brigades has it's roots in the original colonial militias, and the subsequent Citizens Military Force which was the forerunner of today's Army Reserve. By far the majority of the State Reserve Brigades members are Army Reserve soldiers and officers.

The support they give their parent state can take the form of Domestic Security Support or Military Assistance to the Civil Community. Within the HQ unit of each of these brigades resides a Humanitarian and Disaster Reflief cell (HADR). This HQ element can be activated by the relevant state authority.
